PhD Position m/f - oligotrophic biofilms (D 04/2010)
We are a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres, a leading association Europe-wide, focusing on "Environmental Health".
The aim of our research is to proactively detect health risks for both humans and the environment, decoding the mechanisms of pathogenesis and developing concepts for prevention and therapy of diseases.
The Institute of Groundwater Ecology of the Helmholtz Zentrum München is investigating an ecosystem with great relevance for human health.
Job Description
- The candidate will work within a network on the “Systems ecology of microbial biofilms with relevance for ecosystem services and human health”
- The project will focus on the ecology and functions of oligotrophic biofilms in groundwater and drinking water systems
- Specific biofilm-mediated processes with respect to water quality are to be identified
- Cutting-edge research strategies including next-generation transcriptomics and stable isotope tracers will be applied
Your Qualifications
- An excellent diploma/masters degree in biology, microbiology, or a closely related field
- Strong background in molecular and microbial ecology
- Experience in aquatic biofilm research
- Highly motivated and enjoy working in a team as well as independently
