PhD student Giessen
The research group investigates the mechanobiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology of osteoarthritis. The research project will focus on boundary lubrication by synovial fluid which refers to the ability of this joint fluid to reduce the friction between apposed and pressurized cartilage surfaces. Surface-active phospholipids (SAPL) significantly contribute to boundary lubrication, which, once impaired, will cause increased friction, and ultimately, greater cartilage damage within articular joints during osteoarthritis. We aim to study the regulatory control of SAPL-production using an in vitro model. The project will involve the use of mass spectrometry (ESI-MS/MS, MALDI-TOF), qRT-PCR, immunocytochemistry, Western blotting and/or ELISA.
The successful applicant should hold a Diploma/Master degree in biology, biochemistry or related areas, should be highly motivated and have strong interest in biochemistry and cellular biology. Applicants must have excellent communication and team skills. We provide personal funds (fellowship), a modern, well-equipped laboratory and an experienced team of scientists, technicians, PhD-student, and medical students.
